OSU Extended Campus graduation 2011

Ecampus students rake in a record number of OSU degrees

Oregon State University's Ecampus celebrated its largest graduation class in history during the June 11 commencement ceremony, and 46 of those grads traveled to Corvallis on the same day for a special Ecampus reception on the OSU campus.

All told, 386 distance students received their diplomas from OSU, nearly double the amount from 2010 when 210 earned their degrees. The number of Ecampus graduates has skyrocketed 688 percent since 49 students graduated in 2005.

The Ecampus reception in Corvallis attracted adult learners from as far away as Pennsylvania, Georgia and Michigan. The commencement ceremony marked the first time many students had ever set foot on the OSU campus.

"It's an awesome feeling, but it's kinda weird" said Jennifer Johnson, who earned her bachelor's degree in environmental sciences and lives in Maple Valley, Wash. "I've never visited campus before, and now I'm done with school. I'm glad to have the chance to visit at least once, though."

A total of 155 graduates this year earned advanced degrees (master's or Ph.D.). The Ecampus class of 2011 features students located in 40 states and six countries, including Singapore, China and Germany.
