Religious Studies – Online Minor

Explore religion through an academic lens

The interdisciplinary nature of Oregon State University’s online undergraduate minor in religious studies will help you gain an understanding of the impact different religious traditions have had on world politics, aesthetics, social structure and culture.

The religious studies minor does not teach religion. Instead, it will empower you to develop and apply critical humanistic thinking skills to religion and religious experience. The program’s academic focus on religion incorporates a number of related disciplines, including anthropology, history, literature, philosophy, political science, sociology and women’s studies.

A perfect way to round out your undergraduate studies

This minor – offered by the School of History, Philosophy, and Religion in Oregon State’s nationally renowned College of Liberal Arts – is an ideal complement to bachelor’s degree programs delivered online by OSU Ecampus, particularly psychology, anthropology, sociology and history.

Coursework

The online courses in the religious studies minor emphasize skills in critical thinking, argumentative and expository writing, cultural literacy, social justice and global diversity. The curriculum will particularly interest those who are drawn to the introspective nature of and profound questions provoked by religious studies.

You must complete at least 28 credits from the required core coursework to complete the minor. Eight of those credits must come from upper-division classes.
