Admission requirements — history master's degree online

You must possess or meet the following requirements to be considered for admission:

• A bachelor's degree in any field
• Minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA
• A passing TOEFL score for international students
• Meet the OSU Graduate School's minimum admissions requirements

When to apply

All incoming students begin in fall term each year. The application deadline is Jan. 31, and newly admitted students are notified on March 1. Because the program consists of a limited cohort, you're encouraged to submit the application and required materials as quickly as possible in advance of the deadline. 

How to apply

Apply as a degree-seeking student using the OSU Graduate School’s online application form. The nonrefundable application fee is $75.

• Submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities you have attended.
• Submit a cover letter requesting admission to the program. The letter should provide a statement of objectives, your work or related experience and career goals.

Where do I send application materials?

You may submit the OSU Graduate School application online electronically, uploading all documentation (scores, transcripts, etc.) as attachments. Or you may choose to mail your documentation and all materials to the Graduate School at Heckart Lodge, 2900 SW Jefferson Way, Corvallis, OR, 97331.

NOTE: International applicants must also submit documents and language test scores that are outlined on the graduate admissions international applicants webpage.

Transfer credits

Transfer credits in history will be accepted if the courses were taken at Oregon State at the graduate level (as a Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies or other master’s-level student).

Apply to take courses as a nondegree-seeking student

If you don’t want to apply to the OSU Graduate School but would like to take individual classes that are part of the M.A./M.S. in History curriculum, you may apply to OSU as a nondegree-seeking graduate student.
