Follow your passion to help protect and sustain living marine resources by earning your marine conservation and management minor online with Oregon State University.

With a heavy focus on marine vertebrates and conservation science, this program will enable you to balance economic and environmental interests in fisheries and wildlife conservation with an emphasis on marine ecosystems. You’ll also learn to blend knowledge of stock assessments, management regimes and policies to explain what it takes to develop a sustainable fishery.

Experiential learning opportunities on the Oregon coast

You have the unique opportunity to take courses on the coast in Newport at HMSC. Short, intensive experiential learning courses are offered during summer and early fall terms and provide hands-on marine experiences that stimulate and educate.

Coursework

The classes in this 27-credit minor are taught by research faculty in Oregon State’s Department of Fisheries and Wildlife. This gives you the opportunity to learn from instructors with special expertise in the conservation and management of marine vertebrates, their marine and nearshore habitats and aquaculture.

The minor curriculum includes FW 426, a hybrid course that includes a four-day, on-site requirement. Held prior to the start of fall term at OSU’s Hatfield Marine Sciences Center in Newport, Oregon, the site-based component is followed by online coursework throughout the fall.
